damnit, now i have more in my head based off that image which i got from your fic.
With Steve going through the lockbox, and seeing glimpses of someone else he doesn't recognize, and it's just an arm here, a t-shirt here, an oddly familiar tattoo there, and it's not until he's almost emptied the box and laid out the pictures that he realizes that he's in there too, he's a part of Danny, and how *that* happened he doesn't know, but seeing it, in the way Danny settles when Steve touches him, or the way he hands over his keys, makes something uncurl in the pit of Steve's stomach.
He doesn't understand Danny and he doesn't know how to put the pieces together or if they even fit, or if Danny is just a pile of jagged-edged pieces stacked on top of each other in a leaning pile and occasionally erupting and sending pieces flying everywhere. And he doesn't really know how he fits into it at all, but Danny thinks he does, and maybe that's enough.
