Freedom? Speech? Anyone?

I am aggrieved.

First and foremost, what the fuck is UP with this Warriors for Innocence business? (ETA: I had a link posted and was warned to remove it, because it's rumored that these people have a tracking system back to journals who link to them. To this, I can only say: wtf, mate?) I apologize, I was of the impression that as an adult over the age of consent, I am perfectly within my rights to post whatever fiction I please. I suppose this means I shall have to find an archive; irritating.

Secondly, I have discovered that there are now NASCAR romance novels on sale. At my bookstore. Where I work. I think I may cry.

To close, a question: how many think that the closest any of the "Warriors for Innocence" come to getting laid is reading the aforementioned novels? I'm going to make a conservative estimate and say all of them.

Eee, don't direct-link to them! Rumour has it they have a track-back feature and will follow you!!

...

Okay, paranoia is running rampant today, but still. Caution! :(

Are you serious? Jesus, people are fucking crazy. *goes to change it*

For the record, I'm not all that worried about this whole deal from a personal standpoint; I just rejoined LJ a few weeks ago, and there's nothing on this journal that I can't easily repost elsewhere. I'm mostly just horrified.

Hey, romance novels often have deep metaphorical referances and sturdy political commentary.

Well, okay, it's pretty much for unlaid folk like me.

"Warriors of Innocence" my ass. Blatant violation of the first amendment right that the freaking nation is founded on. Can you read 'Revolutionary War' and 'We the People... in order to form a more perfect Union... Life, Liberty (stress this one) and the Pursuit of Happiness'? Come off it, people.

I'm not getting laid either--damn shame, that--but I'll have my porn with a side of content all the same. Also, working in a bookstore has led me to discover that a SHOCKING number of romance novels are written about the Highlands. Is there something about Scottish men that I don't know?

I feel the strange desire to start posting bits and pieces of 1984. Censorship is just not on.

[identity profile] jimmboe2.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think something with the whole skirt-wearing thing. And porn isn't working as well as it could... the whole not 18 thing.

Censorship is just stupid, it is. At the risk of sounding like an utter fool, Nazis and facists pulled this kind of crap. The whole book burning thing.

Which is not on either, but that's a different topic.

[identity profile] gyzym.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, I didn't mean I actually watch porn, just that I'm ok reading it so long as there's, y'know, plot. And characterization. And understanding of the rules of grammar and syntax.

Orwell to Bradbury...it's a menagerie of censorship literature! Perhaps we should compile a list.

[identity profile] jimmboe2.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Er... cough. Syntax? Grammar? What are these things you allude to?

It would take far too long and be far too large. That being said, we could probably get funding.

Ah, apparently it's only if you've got the 'illegal' things in your interests. Or, so I'm told.

And, haha! I posted their linky in my journal! I hope they do have a back track. I want to FLAMEEEEEEEE them. WHEEEE.

*cough* I'm such a little kid...

I love you anyway :)
