Aug. 9th, 2007 11:30 amWow. When people worried that fandom would fall apart after the release of DH, I sort of didn't imagine it would be because of LJ policy rules.
(Also: Am in Canada. Have done very little posting because....am in Canada. Where it is lovely. And outdoorsy-like. And there is a lake, and I like the lake, but my computer does not so much like the lake. But--great fun, Canada. There will be fic shortly.)
It was actually a bit disconcerting. There were four guys; I didn't catch their names because I was too busy observing their behavior in mild awe, so I shall call them Sirius, James, Remus and Peter. Sirius was sitting on a high stool, wearing a buttondown without an undershirt, half unbuttoned, surrounded by women. He was drunk, and behaving like a bit of an idiot. James was sitting across from him, also surrounded by girls but less insane about it, wearing a half-buttoned shirt with an undershirt. He kept grinning at Sirius, and was clearly the leader of the group, but mostly paid attention to a girl at another table, who was pointedly ignoring him. Remus was wearing a polo, eyeing his beer warily and generally looked like he felt irresponsible, and Peter was short, wearing a shirt that was a bit too small on him, and hovering around James like a puppy.
If this had been the extent of the incident, I would have brushed it aside. Plenty of boys could send this impression. However, there was music. And then? There was dancing.
Sirius got up immediately and started making a fool of himself--dancing alone, with each girl in the bar for a period of three seconds, with an old lady. Then, he started singing to James, who grinned at him and got up, also making a fool of himself but staring at the girl who was ignoring him. Remus, despite intense urging by Sirius, refused to dance, and Peter sort of faffed around next to James for a minute before sitting down next to Remus and staring at the dancers hungrily.
And then--and then!--Sirius began to dance with James. In a casual, hahaha we are friends so we can behave this way but perhaps it's a bit homoerotic, ah well, all in the name of good fun and beer! And James would laugh and move away and Sirius would follow him, goading him, acting crazy, and James--ah. They interacted like I've always imagined the Marauders did.
And yes, I recognize that it is a bit sad that I was observing Harry Potter character-like behavior at a bar, but in my defense I was there with my family and as such could not drink, dance, or otherwise enjoy myself.
