I'm a terrible lurker when it comes to this fandom--probably because I don't write in it and I have too many fandoms already. But every once in a while, I read something so damned good I have to comment.
I love this. I cried so hard when Fred died in DH, and I am just as unlikely ever to forgive JKR for killing Fred as for killing Sirius. Sirius and the twins were my favourite characters and then she just takes her evil pen and strokes them right out of canon and I have to run for the fic to make it all better.
Of course, with Fred gone, I feel it really is rather inevitable that George ends up with Lee. The only other possible outcome of DH for George, that I can see, is self-destruction to the point of suicide. And you covered all of that, here, and you did it beautifully. The caring between Lee and George is palpable, and yet the delayed gratification of their relationship works so perfectly with George's attempts to continue living after Fred's death.
That he took Fred's name and tried to become his dead twin in order to feel alive--talk about heartbreaking.
Anyway, that's quite enough rambling and gushing out of me, but I just want to thank you for writing such an exquisite fic with a rare but wonderful pairing.
